Veneer FAQs Answered by Austin Cosmetic Dentist

What cosmetic issues can veneers correct?

Porcelain veneers are a multitasking cosmetic enhancement for your smile. If you have light staining or discoloration, porcelain veneers can cover the unsightly stains with white restorations that blend with the rest of your smile. Veneers are also useful for correcting misshapen teeth and smoothing jagged tooth edges by attaching the ideally shaped porcelain shell over each individual tooth. Additionally, gaps in your smile and the appearance of crooked teeth will disappear.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

The porcelain used to make veneers is not only durable, but also stain resistant. With proper dental care, including routine brushing and flossing, and regular dental cleanings, your porcelain veneers can last for decades. Porcelain veneers are also beneficial for receiving a complete smile makeover in a short amount of time. Porcelain veneers can be completed in as little as two office visits with the modern technology and techniques of Dr. Van Wicklen.

What is the veneer placement process?

The process for your smile makeover begins with a cosmetic dentistry consultation with our South Austin dentist, Dr. Van Wicklen. After determining your smile enhancement desires and specific needs that match your occlusion, facial structure, and speech patterns, Dr. Van Wicklen can begin treatment. First an impression of your teeth will be taken to make a mold for your veneers. This mold will help shape the back side of the veneers to optimally attach with your smile. The mold and specifications from our cosmetic dentist will be used to combine science and artistry for the creation of your veneers. Once the thin porcelain shells are fabricated, Dr. Van Wicklen will place them onto your teeth at your second appointment. Each restoration is individually placed and adjusted to correct your smile imperfections. Once the veneers are in place, a curing light hardens the bond between the tooth and veneer. After a quick polishing, you are ready to walk out of the office with a spectacular new smile.
