What to Do

Although a dental emergency can feel overwhelming, remain calm so that you can provide our staff with relevant details. The following tips will help you handle the situation until you can see Dr. Van Wicklen:

Knocked Out Tooth

  • Gently rinse the area with water, carefully avoiding touching the exposed nerve
  • If possible, apply gauze to control bleeding
  • If you have the tooth, place it in a plastic zipper bag with saliva or milk
  • Call 512.448.3131 to explain your situation to our staff

Lost Crown

  • Keep the crown, even if it is in pieces, and bring it to our office
  • If the crown is in one piece, add a dab of toothpaste and try to reattach it
  • Do not chew on the side of your mouth with the damaged tooth
  • If you must eat or drink, rinse with water afterward
  • Call 512.448.3131 to explain your situation to our staff
